The grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I wonder some times if our sheep guard dog, Buddy, doesn't think, "I wish I were one of those spoiled house pets instead of a working dog." However, that happens to be his lot in life. That's why we bought him - to be a guard dog for our sheep. He was specifically chosen for that sole purpose. On the other hand, our lazy house dogs were picked to be companions for our children, ...and they are often subject to the whims of those children. For example, the boy dog has been seen in cute pink dog clothing in the winter (to keep him warm, of course). Those very house pets often bark jealously when they see Buddy (or the barn cat who's supposed to keep down our rodent population) out roaming the range.

We can look enviously at one another's lives thinking the grass is greener on the other side of our fence, or we can live our own lives to the fullest. It's our choice!
